The house is ideal for 2 couples or for families with up to 3 children as a child bed can be added in the master bedroom.

Al fresco dining can be enjoyed on the shaded pergola, accessed directly from the kitchen.

Podere Paugnano

In the very heart of an unknown and unspoilt part of Tuscany where life still follows the pace of nature sits Podere Paugnano, an authentic Tuscan farmhouse surrounded by stunning views and wild nature. Podere Paugnano is an organic farm producing Pecorino cheese, olive oil and vegetables which can all be tasted on site.

Paugnano's beauty lies in the authenticity of Giovanna's hosting. She likes  people to feel at home from the very moment they set foot at the farm and loves it when guests take part in any farming activities and  respects guests who just want to relax. Giovanna and her family are always just at hand, but absolutely unobtrusive.

The farm bustles with life from early in the morning (your sleep is not, however, spoilt!) and all sorts of activities are carried out, from sheep walking, milking, cheese making, cooking, tendering the garden etc. There are always one or two international WWOOF volunteers helping at the house, which means that although Giovanna's familiy speak little English, you are most likely to be able to communicate!

The atmosphere at Paugnano is very informal and easy going - please do not expect to find a tidy reception and an elegant receptionist on arrival! You will most likely find Giovanna with her hands in dough making ravioli!

The farm hosts cheese making, cheese tasting and cooking classes and dinners on a weekly basis for small groups. Many interesting people are to be met at the farm if you like to socialise.

If you are more reserved, you can be assured that your quiet wil not be spoilt, as the rental houses (except Melo) are away from the main area of activity. The pool, moreover, is accessed only by guests staying at the farmhouse.

The farmhouse is divided in 5 flats - 3 of which are for rental and an independent barn, all restored with care.

A large, garden offers an inviting 6x12m large swimming pool, some children's games, and a magnificent view over the surrounding hills and the nearby hilltop village of Radicondoli.

Special features:

Large independent room with a wood oven for you to have your pizza parties – have a go at making your own pizzas!

Services:

The house offers also a large kitchen/dining room with a huge fireplace with sofas for people to stay together and where Giovanna, the owner, can produce simple, genuine, scrumptious meals on request.

Relax and enjoy having a scrumptious organic meal cooked for you and served either in your apartment, outdoors or inGiovanna's large independent dining room.

Free wireless fast internet connection available for guests.

Pets: 4 dogs and 5 cats live at the farmhouse.

Radicondoli is a picturesque village, set high on the hills of the Colline Metallifere, offering breathtaking views of the valleys around - stretching as far as Volterra and S. Gimignano. It has a very strong identity and a very lively community. Many holiday rentals are available in Radicondoli, with and without swimming pool.
Throughout the year many village feasts liven up the otherwise quiet lifestyle. The village brass band is a gem. Events worth mentioning are 1 May, S. Giovanni on 23 June; the famous Drama Festival from 27 July to 12 August which attracts Italian and International artists. Booking a Radicondoli vacation rental is a fantastic way savour true Tuscan life.
Fantastic weather from May to October, May and September being the very best months to enjoy the natural setting, the sunlight and temperature. Radicondoli and Belforte are perfectly preserved Medieval villages that have kept their character and very lively community. This area is in fact one of the few still authentic and unspoilt parts of Tuscany, away from the limelight and off the beaten track. The village is very close to stunning art cities like Siena, Florence and S. Gimignano, but immersed in wild nature.

Really worth seeing in the area is the Abbey of San Galgano, with the sword in the rock, the geysers at Lardarello, the rolling hills towards Casole d'Elsa, the rivers Merse, Cecina and Farma.

PAUL's review

@ Capanna independent barn in farmhouse rentals in Tuscany

Paugnano is absolutely fantastic and I would strongly recommend it for anyone looking for a Tuscan farm stay.

We stayed at Paugnano in May for 8 nights and the farm was exactly what we were hoping to find in Tuscany. We stayed in the free standing villa called Capanna. It is a renovated barn and has a fantastic rustic feel whilst being spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We are a family of 6 (three young children and a baby) and we could easily fit into the villas two spacious bedrooms. The covered pergola area at the entrance is great and a nice place for watching the sun set over the hills with some local red. There is also a lovely pool above the main farm house, complete with deck chairs, which is great for keeping the kids entertained.

The owners of Paugnano, Giovanni and Giovanna are fantastic and along with their daughters Tamara and Natalie made us feel really welcome and at home. In the end it’s the really the people that you meet on your travels that make them what they are what we loved most about Paugnano was meeting the family. We really enjoyed having dinner on the veranda of the main farm house (which is optional). Giovanna has a big wood fired oven and cooks up some great feasts.

Paugnano is still a genuine farm and the sheep were walked past Capanna twice each day for milking which the kids loved. Giovanni showed them how the sheep are milked – which the kids found fascinating– and they also liked seeing the pet pigs, wild boar and donkey – although the pool was still favourite! You can also buy the pecorino cheese made from the sheeps milk on the property.

The family does speak some English so if you don’t speak Italian (like us) you can get by though a phrase book is helpful and is also useful around the whole Radicondoli area. .

The Radicondoli area is beautiful and less touristy than the more well know parts of Tuscany such as Chianti. You are still within easy reach of everywhere though. The farm it’s self is very large and there is a beautiful though rugged walk to the medieval town of Radicondoli which lies across the valley. Paugnano is also close to Belforte and although a little too far to walk on a regular basis to either town this really doesn’t matter as access by car is quick and easy. Make sure you also ask about the forest swimming pool which a friend of Giovanna’s directed us to

In summary we loved it!

GALWAY's review

@ Capanna independent barn in farmhouse rentals in Tuscany

I loved my stay in Paugnano. It was the mosted relaxing holiday I have ever been on. Whilst communication can be difficult as I had no Italian and English was scarce on the Farm we got through. It added to the adventure. You will not find people who are more friendly or helpfull as you will here. A car is an essential to a holiday here but that allows you the freedom to explore Tuscany which is amazing. One would never tire of site seeing here. The farm was beautifull the childern loved the freedom you had here. You could relax in the knowledge that they were in a very safe location. Definitely a place to go relax, unwind and enjoy lovely local food and drink
JULES's review

@ Capanna independent barn in farmhouse rentals in Tuscany

We had an authentic Italian rustic week at Capanna; the house was simple, but immaculate and full of country charm. The two large bedrooms have comfortable beds and having two tastefully decorated shower rooms was wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped and we spent our evenings watching the sun go down whilst sitting on the veranda, which is just outside the living room door. From here, there is a wonderful view over the valley, towards Radicondoli.

Our hosts, Erica and Giovanna were extremely hospitable, and looked after us very well. If you go, you must try some of their farm produce, particularly the pecorino cheese, which was divine. Our two boys, aged 13 and 10 were very happy to spend time in the clean and beautifully situated swimming pool as me and my husband relaxed on the many comfy loungers. Radicondoli was just a short drive away and has a range of small local shops, including a fantastic baker, who supplied us with most of our needs. There's also a great pizza restaurant in Belforte.

We love sight seeing, and found the drive to Siena took between 30 and 40 minutes. Florence was a bit further. However, nearer at hand are the wonderful towns of San Gimignano, Montalcino (home of the Brunello wine) and Montepulciano. We also visited the hot springs at Bagno Vignoni.

Altogether, Capanna is a wonderful place, peaceful and quite and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view, food and wine.
