Agriturismo al Palio sits at the centre of a 10 hectares holding founded in the late XIX century, where Michele and his family have been living since 1960. The holding lies at the foot of the Bosco di Lecceto on a hill (240 meters above sea level) that overlooks the town of Volte Basse and the Pian dei Mori. The borders are completely natural: the stream Rigo runs along the eastern boundary, to the south a romantic pine forest.

The family grows fruit, vegetables and officinal herbs, and produce wine, olive oil, vin santo and truffles. Thay also raise horses and enjoy the visit of many wild species (deer, wild boars, hedgehogs, etc.) who often at night pay a visit. Tortoises, squirrels, hoopoes, hares and buzzards are often seen.

The Tuscany rental apartments are built in rural buildings dating back to 1888, renovated in 2002 purely Tuscan in style with wooden beams, terracotta floors and tastefully decorated with furniture belonging to the family for generations. Outside, guests have free access to the terrace and garden with gazebo, table and chairs, barbecue, parking space.

Half-board treatment can be offered on request. The family gladly organizes dinners or a nice lunch outdoors with grilled meat. Breakfast and dinner can vary according to season but always consist of dish produced within the company. Or recommend two taverns in the area who enjoy our full trust and all those who have so far visited their table.

There is no swimming pool at the Agriturismo. For those who like to cool off during the hot summer, the river Merse (reached in just ten minutes by car) is a viable alternative to the pool. The forest of Lecceto which limits the north-western boundary of the property provides a pleasant pastime. The many marked trails can be walked on or cycled to explore the Montagnola Woods. On foot, within thirty minutes, you can reach the Lecceto Hermitage, a monastery made famous by the Sienese mystics. Here guests often encounter many animals like squirrels, pheasants, hares, deer, porcupine, wild boar, woodpeckers, titmice, robins, etc..

The farm is located in the area of Montagnola, a small region of high hills, which collects a set of sites which often escape the mass tourism of which are recalled: Ancaiano Cetinale and the estate of a former residence of Pope Enea Silvio Piccolomini, the Romanesque Pieve di Ponte allo Spino, the cloister of Santa Mustiola Torri, the hermitage of Lecceto and the countries of Sovicille, Brenna and Orgia, the Ponte della Pia dei Tolomei and the river Merse.

Within two hours you can reach the Tyrrhenian coast (Follonica, Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia) along the highway Siena Grosseto, or the old road of the Sea (SS73) crosses that important historical sites as Montarrenti, Abbazia di San Galgano and Massa Marittima.

The Crete Senesi is a quarter of an hour's drive east. This beautiful and unique landscape welcomes campaigns without trees around Murlo (important Etruscan center), Val d'Arbia, Montalcino, Pienza, San Giovanni d'Asso, Buonconvento and Asciano. These characteristics are countries lands and monasteries of great beauty and of all: the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.

In the north woods, hills and castles extending up to Florence on Chianti, now famous and renowned throughout the world for the famous and decanted wine. Castellina in Chianti, Vagliagli, Gaiole, Radda and the castle of Brolio are some of the most beautiful places of this region.

Monteriggioni and San Gimignano complete a circuit that is worth enjoying quietly, enjoying the full feeling that a hasty tourist will inevitably miss.
